A metalizing gun is a type of thermal spray gun used to apply metal coatings onto surfaces. It works by heating a metal wire or powder, which is then melted and sprayed onto a surface using a high-pressure air stream. Metalizing guns are commonly used in industrial applications such as corrosion protection, wear resistance, and thermal insulation. They can apply a wide range of metal wires, including aluminum wire, zinc wire, copper, and stainless steel.
The metalizing process provides a dense, protective layer that adheres well to the surface, providing excellent corrosion resistance and durability. It is often used in industries such as automotive, aerospace, and marine, where protection against harsh environments is critical.
A metalizing Gun, a boiler, an air compressor, and a fuel supply comprised their system. The gun included air and gas valves, a heating chamber (burner), a nozzle, a handle, and a melting container. The pot was large, with a capacity of 1.8 kg (4 lb) of molten lead. The vessel sat atop the heating chamber, which was built similarly to a Bunsen burner. The flame was heightened by the addition of compressed air to the hob. The handle protruded from the container and was isolated (insulated) with wood and asbestos. Metal was supplied into a sand blasting nozzle via the container's front aperture. The nozzle was ringed by compressed air, which atomized the molten metal and propelled it to the surface to be coated.
There are different types of metalizing guns available, including flame spray gun, electric arc spray gun, and plasma guns. Each type has its own unique characteristics and advantages, depending on the application requirements. There are several types of metalizing guns used in thermal spraying, each with its own unique characteristics and applications. Here are some common types of metalizing guns:
Wire flame spray gun: This type of metalizing gun uses a fuel gas and oxygen flame to melt and atomize a metal wire. The molten metal is then propelled onto a surface by a stream of compressed air. Wire flame spray gun is commonly used to apply coatings such as zinc or aluminum for corrosion protection.
Powder flame spray gun: This type of metalizing gun uses a fuel gas and oxygen flame to melt and atomize a metal powder. The powder is then propelled onto a surface by a stream of compressed air. A powder flame spray gun is commonly used to apply coatings such as stainless steel or bronze for wear resistance.
Arc spray gun: This type of metalizing gun uses an electric arc to melt and atomize a metal wire. The molten metal is then propelled onto a surface by a stream of compressed air. Arc spray guns are commonly used to apply coatings such as zinc or aluminum for corrosion protection.
Reduced price: The cost of repairing the part is less than that of obtaining a replacement. Frequently, the coating lasts longer than the basic substance used.
Heat input is minimal: The warm splash technique, among other things, excludes the part's warm past.
Flexibility: Almost any metal, fired, or plastic is routinely thermally splashed.
Thickness Variation: Coatings are commonly splashed from 0.001 to very 1 inch thick, depending on the roughness and shower framework. Normally, the thickness ranges from 0.005-0.1 inches.
Controlling Speed: The splash rates range from 3 to 60 lb/hr, depending on the texture and hence the shower framework. Typical material application rates are 1/2 - 2 lb of texture per square foot per 0.01-inch thickness.
